Vintage Postcards of Places Visited from the 1910's

These postcards were received by Carrie Bloss Lynde in Pennsylvania.  They are wonderful!

North Presbyterian Church and Old Land Office on left, Erie PA.

This lovely painted scene was distributed by the Weiler Publishing Company of Dunkirk NY, although printed in Germany.  

City Hall, Erie PA.  This was printed in Germany by Litho-chrome Co, Number B 12668 Published by the Buffalo News Company, Buffalo NY.

Mt. Hood, Oregon.

Compliments of the Prudential Insurance Company of America, home office Newark NJ.

Niagara Falls, NY.  On back:  The whirlpool rapids, about two miles below the falls.  The waters mad rush over the rocky bottom of the narrowing river causes the water to splash and toss to great heights.  Banks rise 250 feet high.  Depth of water unknown.

This postcard is postmarked Jan 27, 1910.

Not sure how appropriate this is to post, but it's what was printed...  Reads "The Red man's Fakt.  Niagara Falls NY."  Not sure what that means.  Postmarked 1907.

Warren PA along the Allegheny

Printed by Litho-Chrome order no 11039.  Postmarked August 25, 1906.

"Automobile day, Buffalo Street, Hamburg, NY."  Photo taken by John Van Epps, Hamburg, NY.  Postmarked 1907.

'Hotel Pontchartrain, Detroit, Mich.'  On reverse:  The Hotel Pontchartrain-- Detroits largest and best hotel is beautifully situated on the Campus.  It is fifteen stories high with three stories underground.  The hotel was opened to the public in October 1907 and strictly fireproof.  It is a marvel of convenience, the underground portion being most important for the comfort of the guests.  Over five million pounds of steel were used in its construction.

Postmarked May 1910.

"Board Walk and Boat House at Waldamere, Erie, PA."  Made expressly for S. H. Knox and Co, printed in Germany.  

"Allegheny River view, Warren PA'  Printed by Litho-Chrome.

'491 Gifford Building, Broolkyn Square, Jamestown, NY'  Hand colored photo was postmarked 1906.

'Lafayette Hotel, Buffalo NY 18809' is a photo .  Postmarked 1908.

'Erie PA Public Bath, foot of Chestnut St.'  Printed by Paul C. Koeber Co. 85 Franklin St. New York City and Kirchhelm, Germany.

"New York Street Life, Cheese vendors on Mulberry Street.'  The Platinachrome Co, NY.  Printed in America.  Hand colored, postmarked 1909.  Shows people sitting along sidewalks on steps up to brownstone homes with baskets full of cheeses.  

This postcard is in Swedish!  It reads, "Entrance to Skansen Kronen Gothenberg."  The back shows that the illustration was created by the Grandberg Industrial Art Institute.  Thanks to Google Translate.  It's from before 1909.  

'Lake Massabesic, Manchester N.H.'  Boats float near the shore and dock.  It's dated 1907.

'Lily Pond on Peninsula, Erie, PA.'  Published by the Buffalo News Company, Buffalo, NY. 

'Front Gates, State Hospital, Warren, Pa.'  This majestic view is damaged and peeling but shows the large trees and lovely yard.  

'Sunset on the Allegheny River, Warren, Pa.'  This lovely river view  was published by the Rotograph Company, NY City.

'An Avenue of Palms in Florida' was published by the Illustrated Postal Card Co, New York.  

'Fraley Street, Kane, Pa' shows high power lines and tall buildings on each side of a busy street.  It was published by the Woodward 5 and 10c Store, Kane Pa.  It is postmarked August 1910.

'Armory, 43rd Separate Company, Olean NY.'  Published by the Rochester News Company, Rochester, NY.  USA -- Leipzig-- Berlin.  

'Bethany Lutheran Church, Sheffield Penna.'  This card, postmarked 1908, features a lovely view of the grand church in Sheffield.  

This monotone features mini postcards from Yellowstone in a vertical pattern.

This awesome 'Souvenir Greetings' postcard features an opening front door.  

The embossed door opens to reveal an accordian set of dot printed photos of Sheffield Pennsylvania!

Small photos fold upward out of the door  I think the sender did this custom gluing for her mother.

This first set of dot printed photos show a church and parsonage in Sheffield, Pa.  The next photo above shows a school in Sheffield.  Unfortunately, the names of both are obscured.

The next three dot prints show other scenes of Sheffield.  The center one reads 'View from P and E Station.'  The top one reads, 'High School, Sheffield, PA.'  

This one reads,  'M E Church and Parsonage, Sheffield, PA.'  

These last two scenes were so tightly glued that the writing is illegible.  

Happy Birthday Postcards from the 1900's-- from Pennsylvania

Carrie Bloss Lynde received these birthday Postcards while living in Pennsylvania.  For a penny, one could post these anywhere in the United States.  Carrie received several lovely cards.

This card sports her name with highlights in glitter.  It's embossed where the flowers lie.  Postmarked 1908.

Deep pink roses adorn this gold framed card 'Heartiest Congratulations.'  

Best Wishes for a Happy Birthday is also embossed with gold in an oval frame around a red/pink rose.  It's embossed, no postmark.  

Carrie was born in November, hence the birthstone card and flower.  Dated November 1910.

'Right heartily to greet you on your Birthday' is deeply embossed on the flowers and the border.  Dated November 1910.

'Birthday Greetings' features a basket with red roses tumbling out.  Gold leaf accents outline the basket and the words.  Embossed and printed in Germany.

Birthday Greetings written in gold leaf, as well as outlining the leaves.  A short verse is also written in gold leaf.  Deeply embossed, printed in Germany.  

Birthday Greetings, another deeply embossed floral card.  Printed in Germany.

Birthday Greetings-- a basket with roses and doves bringing letters.  Deeply embossed and gold outlined.  Printed in Germany.

Birthday Greetings outlined in silver.  A cottage on a pond framed by flowers.  This is also deeply embossed, printed in Germany, dated Nov 1910.

'Birthday Greetings' hangs from a fan like a sign or banner.  The fan is decorated with a nature scene.  Light embossing fills the ground, in two layers of paper.  Dated November 1910.

This postcard is completely embossed with 'Birthday Greetings.'  A bouquet of flowers, like sweet peas fills the space.  Dated November 1908.  

This 'Best Wishes' postcard is dated 1910.  It's also embossed and the flowers are outlined in gold.  A small peeled-away section reveals a lovely hamlet with a bridge over a stream and a tree-ringed home.

'Best Wishes for a Glad Birthday' features another peek into a calm lakeside home.  Flowers spray across the card framing the view.  It's embossed, printed in Germany by Davidson Brothers, 'Pictoral Post Cards, series 72.'  Dated 1910.

This heavy card sporting Birthday Greetings features deeply embossed pansies.  It's dated 1908.

This embossed and gold outlined card is dated 1908.  Printed in Germany.

An eagle with a huge bouquet of lavender flowers majestically wishes a happy birthday in this embossed card.  Series 460 c. printed in Germany.  

Although this card doesn't scream birthday, it was sent as a Birthday card.  'All Good Wishes' are offered in a banner in the foreground.  An inset within a green wreath shows a tranquil water-wheel scene.  This embossed and gold leafed card was postmarked November 1911.  

'With Birthday Wishes- -A love more deep than words can say, such love be thine, O friend, to-day.'  This lovely sentiment rests below a watercolor inset of a snowy scene at dusk.  Embossed and dated 1910.  

A wreathed bird brings a love note to the recipient in this 'Birthday Greetings' postcard.  Bells hang from columns wrapped in 4 leaf clover.  Embossed and dated November 1910.  

'A Happy Birthday' with this verse, 'May loving thoughts from friends sincere, make this a day of days.'  This lovely forget-me-not embellished fan is embossed.  Dated November 1910.

The pansies and white poppies are surrounded by a gold-leafed embossed oval.  'Birthday Greetings' is dated November 1910.

This interesting card shows a second layer of paper was embossed to the bird and the lower flowers, creating a deeply embossed relief.  Traces of glue remain beneath the bird.  'A happy Birthday' is simply written across the center, with the bird carrying a letter.  Postmarked 1907.  

'Best Birthday Wishes' come to the recipient with a wreath of small lavendar flowers, bordered by lovely white flowers.  This embossed card is dated November 1910.  

Ribbons tie a sprig of yellow roses in this postcard.  Embossed gold leaf frame the larger rose, almost like the medieval paintings of Christ with the halos.  'A Birthday Greeting' script on the front greets the viewer.  This embossed card is dated November 1908.
